Principal's Message

July 21, 2022

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Gardena High School!

WE are excited to continue improving teaching and learning and student support to meet our goals:

100% Attendance,

100% Graduation and A-G 'C' or Better, and

Student and Parent Engagement

WE are committed to the LAUSD Core Beliefs (Equity, Collaboration, and Excellence) and will approach our goals by:

1. Incorporating and Evaluating Instructional Practices,

2. Implementing Equitable Grading and Instruction & Culturally Responsive Pursuits, and

3. Developing Academy and Magnet School Pathways.

OUR high expectations for teaching and learning will infuse socio-emotional learning into the curriculum and hold students accountable for their actions through restorative justice, allow us to reflect and change our practice if a student is not making standards progress, and help build our students 21st Century “super skills” by incorporating effective instructional practices:

Discussion techniques and student participation to ensure all students share their thinking,

Standards-based activities to engage students, and

Feedback that will move student learning forward.

OUR Panther PRIDE will be intentional and focused on the right conditions and support, honoring individual variation in learning styles, meeting the students where they are to accelerate achievement, and communicating learning intention, relevance, and success:

What am I learning today?
Why am I learning it?

How will I know that I have learned it?

Our academy and Magnet School pathways will continue to link learning to college and career, prepare all students to be adaptable, effective communicators, self-advocates, and open-minded and ethical, and in the near future, give more opportunities for work-based learning and college enrollment during high school.

We look forward to partnering with you to continue "Breaking Ground for the Future."

Dear Proud Panthers,

It was an honor to serve and lead Gardena High School.

This school year we returned, reinvested, and renewed the high school and senior experience and supported each other. WE adapted and continue getting better.

To our Gardena High School Staff, I am confident, WE believe that all students can succeed when provided the right conditions and support. Thank YOU for meeting our students where they are to allow more students to succeed academically.

To our parents, YOU are a most valuable partner in your child’s learning. WE thank YOU for your patience and support this school year. YOU are a proud Panther too.

To our IMMORTALS, thank YOU for an open mind, self advocating, communicating, and adapting. There’s no doubt YOU will continue “Breaking Ground for the Future.” YOU are ready. We wish you well and we hope the Panther Pride will lead you throughout college, career, and life.

Dear Proud Panthers,

This school year we experienced teaching and learning and supporting each other at a distance. WE adapted and continued getting better.

To our freshman, many of you who have never stepped foot on the Gardena High School campus, thank YOU for learning with us at a distance and we look forward to sharing the Panther experience, in-person, soon.

To our sophomores and juniors, thank you for continuing to DREAM. YOU are ready to link learning to college and career and meet or exceed standards.  Learning Today! Leading Tomorrow!

To our seniors, although the in-person senior experience was not meant to be, there’s no doubt YOU will continue “Breaking Ground for the Future.”  We wish you well and we hope the Panther Pride will lead you throughout college, career, and life.

To our parents, YOU are a valuable partner in your child’s learning and we thank YOU for your continued patience and support.

To our Gardena High School Staff, I am confident, “Everything WE try is in the interest of our students and families in mind.” Thank YOU for meeting our students where they are and honoring individual variation in learning to allow more students to succeed academically.

Yours in Service,

Frank Davies | Principal
