Gardena High School Overwhelmingly Approves Four Period Schedule

Gardena High School overwhelmingly approves a four period schedule for the 2021-2022 school year. The considerations for the four period schedule include: Health & Safety, Less Classes, More Time.

1. Students are responsible for only four classes and the 90 minute period allows more time during the class for in depth learning activities to (1) show understanding, (2) share knowledge, and (3) demonstrate skill of the learning targets.

2. Teachers have fewer preparations to allow more time for (1) planning and preparing lessons that honor individual variation in learning styles, (2) providing feedback to students based on learning targets to guide and improve their work, and (3) communicating with families about individual students progress towards mastery.

3. Students can earn 80 credits in a school year with (1) enrichment, (2) intervention, and (3) credit recovery opportunities provided during the regular school day to support student learning and a growth mindset.
